As the only product design engineer at Isotropic Systems, I was not only responsible for mechanical design activities, I also owned all the industrial design aspects of product development. Pictured here is a prototype antenna. The black base is reaction injection molded and I’m currently in the midst of redesigning for traditional injection molding in preparation for a first generation product. The white piece is a radome consisting of a reaction injection molded structural ring with PTFE coated Kevlar fabric bonded on top. At 86 cm (34”) in diameter these parts are quite large for injection molded plastics.
